Experimental Sculptures

These three sculptures visually communicate an industrial and almost scrap like feel but are ultimately unified by their common materials and added likeness. While exploring the materials to build the sculptures, I wanted to focus on the cohesiveness of the pieces because unity powerful thing to witness. I decided to include the bright red string across each piece in an effort to portray a sense of false captivity. The string is "holding down" each sculpture but truthfully it is what brings them uniformity. I felt the work was not holding my attention as long as I would have liked it to, so I made the choice to include the hidden black dots. The dots add a layer of wonder and curiosity that was needed to make the sculptures work individually as well as together. Creating these pieces allowed me to push my creativity and problem solving. I was able to use former skills, such as crochet, to form building blocks for the works such as the nets used in Height.
